We are still slowly creeping into Spring here in Denver (code for it’s still been snowing) and I know we’ve all been hopeful that at some point in the near future we will see these beautiful green trees, light clouds and sunsets. I have been intending to blog this gorgeous Spring family photo session at Golden History Museum for a while now because Golden History Museum is such a great location and I don’t have it represented at all in my portfolio.

What I love about the Golden History Museum for a family photo session and the surrounding area is it’s diversity. It has both a rustic feel and a nature feel and there’s not a ton of walking to get to different backdrops. So if you have younger kids like the Q family does, this may be a location you’d want to consider. Mom told me that this was her kids first time doing a family photo session, so of course as a parent, you’re a bit nervous about how well the kiddos will do.

As you can see the kids had fun! My goal is to keep it light and fun, and let the kids be themselves. In other words, they get to tell me what they’d like to do. When we put them in charge, we get better results! If we get too posey posey, it may not work out in our favor, haha!

A mix of posed and candid is where I am living for littles, and even for families with bigger kids. It’s always nice for families to have a diverse group of choices in their session gallery. Maybe they want to frame the posed photo on their walls, but they may want to use the candid photo on their Holiday cards so options are always good!

This is a great example of the variety in backdrops at Golden History Museum, with beautiful water and greenery just across the bridge from the Golden History Museum. This creek has so many different looks because when the water level is low, we can actually get right on the edge of the water. The spring we did this session, the water level was extremely high and fast, so we had to stay on the sidewalk and catch the views of the water from a different angle. Still looked great!

By the time our session was coming to an end, my young friend here had gotten used to me and he was ready to have a good time. On a side note parents, one of the benefits of selecting a 60 Minute Family Session is that if it’s going to take your little one time to get used to me, it means that we still have time to get some additional poses in where everyone is happy and relaxed!
