Downtown Denver Urban Family Photo Session

Ever wondered how true the claim is that Denver, CO gets about 300 days a sunshine a year? It’s actually pretty accurate and we get sunshine even in the winter time. Temperatures can be a little sketchy but we do get some 50+ degree sunny days in December! As a Denver based photographer, I’m grateful for those 50+ degree sunny days because they make for some good evening photo sessions in the winter time when we can be flexible with scheduling.

This is exactly what happened for my lovely friend Tiffany (I have like 3 friends named Tiffany and my husband always asks me, which one are you referring to, haha). Tiffany and her husband’s boys were in town for the Christmas holidays and they wanted some updated photos of all six of them. The great thing is that this crew is a “Downtown” session type of crew, which is a great backdrop for winter time when so many of our nature locations are bare with naked trees. And bare with naked trees is my least favorite backdrop to shoot in.

We kicked off our session at Confluence Park, which is always a go to of mine as I like the water, the rocks, the REI building and the bridge in the background.

I can’t ever resist a textured bridge, but I will admit, this is a hard shot to get because of all the pedestrian and bike traffic. One thing that I’m guessing will ruin a perfectly good photo session is having a close run in with a cyclist. Hasn’t happened yet, knock on wood.

Our next stop was near Union Station…we hit the red bridge, the street (as I love me some street shots), and this cool brown textured wall. It’s amazing how much you see when you are looking for the best back drops.

And last stop - Millennium Bridge. I love this bridge at sunrise and sunset. The views and the architecture are A+. The thing that’s not A+ is trying to avoid all the foot traffic! We had a great time and I would highly recommend a Downtown Denver Urban Session on a sunny winter day. My one lesson…this needs to be an hour long session to account for the walking and the photo bombers. If you want in on this type of session - you know where to find me: makiaimages@gmail.com
