Mommy and Me Session | 17 Mile Farm in Centennial, CO

Well folks, it’s Mid-March, the time springs forward tomorrow, and before we know it flowers will be back in bloom and trees will be green again. I must clarify that those things will happen after a few more snow storms here in Denver, in case you were hoping we would skip the snow storms. No, no we won’t skip the snow storms and in fact we are in the middle of one right now, as I write!

One of the things that screams Spring time to me, is Mother’s Day. And if you are a Mom, like myself, one of the things you may be wishing for the most on Mother’s Day is a decent photo of you and your kiddos! And also if you are like me, you have a ton of photos of your kids, and a ton of photos of your kids with your spouse; but none with just you and the kids! I’m not saying this is your family, but typically, Mom is the taker of all the photos, so we are always behind the cell phone or camera and never actually in the photo. There is a very easy way to solve this problem and it’s to have your very own Mommy and Me session with your kids. If you want your spouse to “surprise” you with a Mommy and Me Session for Mother’s Day then you can have one of your friends send this blog post directly to them. How’s that for sending a big hint! Your spouse can see how this works by looking at the session below!

First, we set a date and a location and because it’s a Mother’s Day gift, you can even have our spouse pick out the clothes your kids are going to wear. Oh, that’s taking it a little too far? Ok, well why don’t we have your spouse purchase a Mommy and Me Session Gift Certificate (Mini Session or Full Session) and you and I will handle the planning from there! These are my three friends from the “O” family with fresh hair cuts, pretty curls, and outfits that coordinate with Mommy’s outfit.

Mom selected a location that was close to home for her (well both of us because we live in the same neighborhood, ha) so that our little friends wouldn’t be grumpy after a long drive and their session could be planned around dinner and a dessert treat after we were done with our session. She also selected a location that had a variety of backgrounds so we can keep the kids moving, thus less possibility of them getting bored! Mommas (and photographers) have to think about all of these things to make sure our session goes smoothly.

This was a beautiful August evening which helped ensure our young friends were nice and warm, because photo sessions are a lot less fun when the kiddos are cold. And if you like this lush green look, summertime is the way to go!

The beauty of Mommy and Me Sessions…Mommy gets dedicated time with each kiddo. And I love how these images turned out. A mix of posed and candid displaying that intimacy between Mom and daughter and Mom and son. If you are wondering about the dramatic sunset in the background, it was a direct result of the fires that Colorado struggled with all summer long. The fires were terrible for our environment and terrible for our health, but they made for some gorgeous sunsets for some of my summer sessions.

You’ll see one of Mom’s secret weapons in the photo…yep, candy…if candy isn’t your kids thing, then that’s ok. But we ALWAYS have to have some bribe material with us, and Mom came through with the thin mints! To end our session, we had to do something a little more fun and let the kids do donuts around mom. We tend to save this one for last in case someone goes down and gets a grass stain in their pants, haha!

If a Mommy and Me Session looks like it may exactly what the doctor ordered for Mother’s Day, then reach out to me or have your spouse reach out to me at: makiaimages@gmail.com

See you next month!
